Build The Middle Class
Quality of Life Petition
The American middle class has shrunk from 61% in 1971 to 50% in 2021. When the middle class shrinks, the division between the rich and the poor gets larger. When the middle class grows, fewer people live in poverty and the wealthy are incentivized to re-invest in the country that got them rich.
Every minute members of congress spend grandstanding about wedge issues, opposing the other party, engaging in political theater, and shutting down good ideas because they weren’t theirs is a minute wasted. There is plenty we can agree on. Improving the quality of life for Americans is possible but only if congress will stop being distracted by personal and party power.
Congress must to stop wasting time and money fighting each other and get back to work on three bipartisan, non-wedge issues that directly affect our quality of life. Our elected officials must cosponsor and vote for legislation that supports:
Healthy communities, by addressing fair healthcare costs; affordable housing; neighborhoods free of crime and environmentally healthy policies;
National security by strengthening the security of the United States from all domestic and foreign threats, supporting the establishment and stability of foreign democracies, opposing autocracies and optimizing our response to foreign threats including cyber vandalism and cyber terrorism.
Economic opportunity for small businesses and for working Americans by incentivizing the provision of a living wage, balancing the budget, and rewarding actual work in the tax code.
None of these issues are remotely controversial and yet our Congressional leaders refuse to make progress because the side in minority does not want to give the side in the majority a public win. The truth is, when Congress refuses to make progress the people lose and the middle class shrinks.
Let’s push the American government to get back to work improving our quality of life. When we focus on building the middle class, the quality of life for every American goes up. Sign this petition to help pressure members of congress to come together and sign the BTMC pledge.
